Ducktales
[Personality]:
Scrooge Mccduck is an eccentric businessman, who adores money and is always looking into new ways to amass more fortune. This includes heading out on dangerous adventures to the farthest reaches of the world, business transactions, and playing the stock market. One of his favorite hobbies is swimming in his money bin, counting money, and leading an active lifestyle. He’s not the sort of person that would be comfortable sitting still for long. Despite his years he’s a spry, energetic sort. The only thing he loves more than money are those closest to him (though sometimes... he can lose sight of that and make bad decisions in regards to money vs. family.. he always comes round in the end). He has the reputation of being a tightwad.. which is not entirely untrue. He likes to make money, not spend it.
Some of the first scenes you’re presented with in the Ducktales series is the sight of Scrooge refusing to donate to a charity, taking a whole plate of free samples for himself (once he knew they were free), and his delighting in ejecting solicitors from his place of business. He can be a bit crotchety, stubborn, and sarcastic. He certainly can get frustrated when things don’t go according to plan and he can take it out on people that don’t really deserve it. Scrooge is in the habit of brandishing his cane at others when he feels he’s in the right. He is capable of feeling remorse and will often end up making it up to the person he wronged by the end of it. He does become more approachable once his nephews start living with him. Seeing the way Huey, Dewey, and Louie behave reminds him of how he was when he was younger and it convinced him that he was being too harsh on them when they first arrived.
Scrooge can also be too impulsive. There are several instances when in his desire to get to the treasure quicker, he forgets to think about all the traps that might be lying in wait along the way. He is often the one setting the traps off first. That’s not to say that he is always bungling up their adventures. He’s also a shrewd businessman, and able to outwit his opponents much of the time. Another instance when he was too impulsive was his proposal to Millionaira. Scrooge had first approached the businesswoman wishing to buy a portion of land that he company owned, and he ended up falling for her. Millionaira’s smooth business sense impressed him, and she only took an interest in his money. He was so enamored with her that he didn’t realize the sort of person she was until it was almost too late. When he’s in love, he can fall hard. Though the love of his life is Goldie- that didn’t stop him from proposing to Millionaira (And don’t think Goldie let him off easy for that!).
During his time, Scrooge has spent much of it conducting research about a wide variety of subjects. Anything that might be of interest to him or give him an additional edge. He has an interest in legends and the like because they can often lead to the next expedition. Over his travels he’s become more familiar with a variety of languages, and civilizations. He even has his own personal museum which holds an assortment of artifacts.
Being the richest duck in the world, keeps the pressure on him to maintain that position as he admitted to his nephews when it looked like the quest for the treasure of the golden sun was coming to an untimely end. Scrooge is very competitive and he does not like to lose. Despite some of his outward behavior, Scrooge is truly a good person at heart. Even if his worst enemies are in trouble that could lead to their demise, he will often rescue them even if it’s a hassle to do so. He’s a terrible patient. Scrooge is one of those types that would refuse to take the day off of work even if he’s dizzy with fever.
[Abilities / Strengths & Weaknesses]:
- He’s able to count all the money in his bin remarkably quickly. This talent is displayed in one of the episodes when a leprechaun swipes a few coins from the bin. Scrooge only dives a few times before coming up with the exact number of currency that’s missing. He’s also fairly skilled at appraising the value or various objects. Along the lines of these abilities, he’s able to sniff out gold. He has to be relatively close to it but he does not have to be in sight of it. In one episode when he was following a trail of money that had been swiped from his bin he was able to determine which coins were his and which had been dropped by someone else.
- Scrooge has previous ship experience. He’s often seen taking over the wheel on a variety of different types of ships, this includes those with engines and those that rely on the power of sails alone. In the quest for the treasure of the golden suns, there’s a prime example of Scrooge being able to handle a more archaic vessel. Not only that but he’s also shown loading and firing a canon in that series of episodes. One of his first jobs, was acting as a cabin boy on board of a seafaring vessel.
- Despite his age, he’s fairly fit and in good shape. It’s not unusual to find him climbing a hiking over long distances, swinging from vines, or mountain climbing without losing a beat. When he runs into an enemy, he will sometimes try to use physical force to overpower them. That being said, he’s not always effective so he is willing to fight but not the best combatant. He tends to rely more on his wits.
- Over the years Scrooge has accumulated a wide array of knowledge on cultural, business, and historical subjects. Having traveled the world he’s learned how to communicate in many different languages.
- One of Strooge’s greatest weaknesses is MONEY. Plain and simple. Scrooge will go to great lengths to increase his fortune and maintain his title of richest duck in the world. His greed sometimes knows no bounds. It can make him temporarily lose sight of what’s truly important and will sometimes convince him to get into some terrible business deals. The Beagle Boys, posing as airplane mechanics once convinced Scrooge to let them work on his new jet just because they would work on it for free. This allowed them to turn around and steal said jet. He will look for any possibly way to save a buck.
- Another one of his weaknesses is his family, or more specifically his nephews. There isn’t much that he wouldn’t do for them. In one episode Magica Despell cast a spell over Scrooge’s mansion that showed those caught up in it their worst fears. Scrooge’s fears included the loss of his fortune, bill collectors beating down his door, and his nephews deciding that they hated him and wanted to leave the estate for good.
- He may be older but that does not mean he’s always mature. Scrooge has been shown to throw tantrums when things are not going in his favor and he can have a quick-temper. This temper of his has gotten him into trouble in the past and it’s likely to do so in the future as well.
[Limited Powers]:
Scrooge does not really have any powers to speak of.

[Irritation seemed to drip off of the ink being pressed into the newly acquired journal. He'd read the message from Scurvy Dog, and read the words on the fountain it was still insufficient.]
I demand to speak to the man in charge..............
[There was a slight pause in the script]
Jones has some nerve kidnapping Scrooge McDuck. He obviously doesn’t know who he’s dealing with. Time is money, and I don’t have any time to waste. Now where is this blaggard?
